Sportimonium

The Sportimonium, sports as part of our heritage

Why is sport not an integral part of our heritage? In Belgium, the Bloso sports complex in Hofstade (Flemish Brabant) has since 1985 housed the Sportimonium, the only Belgian institution recognised by the public authorities to work for the protection and study of the national sporting heritage. The listed industrial building houses a museum, unique in its kind, which won the 2007 Museum Prize. The Sportimonium is not only a place of memory but also a living centre and meeting point of sporting culture. Alongside the library, it accommodates a large conference room, recently renovated and renamed in homage to Henri de Baillet Latour, one of the driving forces of the Olympic Movement. In support of the initiative, the InBev-Baillet Latour Fund financed the total cost of the renovation. The conference room was also the venue of the official ceremony in homage of the Belgian Olympic athletes at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. >> links: www.sportimonium.be Facts 21/10/2008 Official prize ceremony for the Belgian Olympic athletes at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, hosted by Pierre-Olivier Beckers, President of the BIOC, and Baron Philippe de Schoutheete de Tervarent, President of the InBev-Baillet Latour Fund. >> read more: Press release September 2008 The InBev-Baillet Latour Fund financed the total cost of the renovation of the Henri de Baillet Latour conference room, i.e. an amount of €65,000.
